Newfoundland and Labrador’s auditor general has found that the provincially owned Oil and Gas Corporation didn’t always manage employee compensation in accordance with government direction.

Denise Hanrahan released a performance audit saying Nalcor employees who transitioned to Oil-Co were given salary increases much higher than other government employees received.

The auditor adds that more than $1 million dollars was spent on external financial services between January 2021 and December 2023 on work that potentially could have been performed by Oil-Co employees.

The audit also found that the corporation didn’t ensure the best possible use of public money and there were concerns when it came to conflict of interest practices.
